Michael St. Mary graduated from the University of Houston
in 1979 with a BFA in Graphic Communications, which had
a strong focus on the study of the design process. He participated
in a juried-admission design workshop in Switzerland, taught by
internationally acclaimed graphic designers.
While working full-time in Houston in an architectural firm as a
graphic designer and an architectural model maker, he developed
his sculpture practice. Having worked with wood since an early
age, wood was his natural choice for sculpture. In addition to
wood he has explored various other mediums, including stone,
cement on steel armature, metal fabrication, polyester resin casting,
and bronze casting from clay, wax and plaster.
Michael had his first sculpture show at Hooks-Epstein Gallery in
Houston in 1989. He is presently exhibiting at the Carmel Art
Association, where he is actively involved as a board member. His
sculpture is in private collections in the United States and Europe.
